Carpentry Services
We perform carpentry on fascia, decking and siding that is related to roofing. We also replace skylights.
What is fascia?
Fascia is basically the trim on your roof. It caps the end of rafters so they're not exposed, and can also be used to hold up your rain gutters, creating a layer between the edge of the roof and the outside. Not only does fascia have an aesthetic appeal, but it also helps to protect your roof and house interior from weather damage. Considering its location on your house, fascia tends to be vulnerable to water damage, leading to rot which can then spread to the rafters and beyond. Thus, most homeowners will have to replace at least parts of the fascia a few times over the lifetime of the house.
If/when the fascia needs to be replaced, we will go ahead and inspect the roof and flashing, as we can get an up-close look while the fascia is removed. In order to help prolong the life of your fascia, it is important that you clean your gutters regularly in order to remove debris such as leaves and moss, and to perform simple maintenance tasks such as re-painting the boards.
What is decking?
Roof decking is the layer between the trusses and joists—which are the primary structural components of your roof—and the insulating or weatherproofing layers. Basically, it ties all the structural components of your roof together. Decking comes in different materials, including plywood, OSB sheathing and wood tongue and groove. Because most decking on homes is made from wood, common problems leading to decking repairs and replacements are roof leaks, termites and other pests.
What about siding?
We specialize in roofing, but there are times when roof-related repairs to your siding are necessary. If the siding meets the roof and there are underlying problems (such as leaks or rot), it's necessary to repair the siding and properly repair the flashings for the overall health of your roof.
You replace skylights?
Yes, we do. Skylights, while adding value to your home, must be properly installed otherwise they will be prone to leaks. This is primarily because of old or incorrectly installed flashing.
